ILUMA i ONE in Chennai: No Blade, No Cleaning, and Why It Matters

Ask anyone in Chennai who used an older IQOS what they remember, and cleaning tends to come up. Blade devices needed regular attention: residue on the heating blade, bits of tobacco in the chamber, cleaning sticks and brushes in the drawer. In a humid city, keeping on top of that was one more chore. The ILUMA i ONE does away with all of it. This guide explains how, without the jargon, and what "no cleaning" does and doesn't mean.
How older devices heated tobacco
Earlier IQOS devices used a thin heating blade. When you pushed a stick in, the blade went into the tobacco and heated it from the inside. It worked, but it came with two problems:
- Residue. Tobacco in direct contact with a hot blade leaves deposits on it. Over time, those build up and affect taste, so the blade and chamber needed cleaning.
- Breakage. A thin blade can bend or snap, especially if a stick is pulled out at an angle or the device is dropped.
Many users found that in humid weather the residue and loose tobacco were stickier and harder to shift, which made the cleaning routine feel more frequent.
How SMARTCORE induction works, simply
If you've cooked on an induction stove, you already understand the idea. An induction stove doesn't get hot itself. It creates a magnetic field that heats the steel pan sitting on it, and the pan heats the food.
The ILUMA i ONE works the same way, in miniature:
- The device is the stove. Inside it is a coil that creates a magnetic field when a session starts.
- The stick is the pan. Every TEREA stick has a sealed metal heating element inside the tobacco.
- The tobacco is the food. The element heats up and warms the tobacco around it, from the inside.
Nothing in the device touches or pierces the tobacco. The heat is made inside the stick, by the element sealed within it.
That's also why the sticks matter. Only TEREA has that metal element, so only TEREA works in the ILUMA i ONE. HEETS, the older sticks, have no element and don't work in ILUMA. And because TEREA is built for induction, it must never be put into an older blade device.
What that changes for you
| Blade devices | ILUMA i ONE | |
|---|---|---|
| Something inside to clean | Yes, the blade and chamber | No |
| Cleaning tools | Needed | Not needed |
| Blade that can break | Yes | No blade |
| Residue affecting taste over time | Possible if not cleaned | Not a cleaning issue, since there's no blade |
| Sticks | HEETS | TEREA only |
The practical result: you insert a stick, use it, pull it out, and close the cap. There's no weekly routine, no brushes, no scraping.
What "no cleaning" doesn't mean
It doesn't mean "no care". The ILUMA i ONE is still an electronic device, and Chennai's climate is still hard on electronics. What you need to do is simpler, not nothing:
- Keep the cap closed between sessions. The sliding cap keeps dust, lint and moisture out of the opening.
- Keep it dry. Humidity is normal; getting wet isn't. If it does get wet, don't charge or use it until it has dried fully at room temperature.
- Keep it out of heat. Never leave it in a parked car or in direct sun.
- Wipe the outside with a dry, soft cloth if it gets sweaty or dusty.
- Look at the USB-C port before charging, and clear any lint gently. Never poke inside with metal.
If something seems wrong, such as a stick not heating, check that it's a TEREA stick, pushed in until the line on the filter meets the top, with the cap fully open. If a fault persists, contact official IQOS support.
Why it matters more in Chennai
Humidity changes how tobacco behaves. A device where tobacco touches a hot blade will always have something to clean, and damp conditions don't help. With the ILUMA i ONE, the tobacco stays inside the stick and goes in the bin with it. The only things you manage in humid weather are keeping your TEREA packs dry and keeping the device out of the rain, both covered in our Chennai storage guide and Chennai device care guide.
The rest of the device
The induction heating sits inside a one-piece body, 122.4 × 30.6 × 16.3 mm and 73.9 g, with four white status lights and a pill-shaped button. A full charge gives about 20 sessions and takes about 90 minutes over USB-C. A session lasts up to 6 minutes or 14 puffs, with FlexPuff adding up to 4.

Getting one
The ILUMA i ONE is ₹4,990 in Breeze Blue, Leaf Green, Digital Violet and Midnight Black, and ₹5,290 in Electric Purple. Order on iqoser.in; checkout shows the delivery options for your pincode.
Induction heating changes how the device works, not what TEREA is. It's tobacco, it contains nicotine, which is addictive, and it is not risk-free. It's for adults who already smoke.
Questions
Does the ILUMA i ONE need cleaning?
No. It has no heating blade, so there's no residue to clean and no cleaning tools to buy.
How does the ILUMA i ONE heat TEREA without a blade?
A coil in the device creates a magnetic field that heats a sealed metal element inside each TEREA stick, much like an induction stove heats a pan.
Why can't I use HEETS in the ILUMA i ONE?
HEETS don't have the metal element that induction heating needs, so they don't work in ILUMA devices.
Does humidity affect the ILUMA i ONE?
Normal humidity isn't a cleaning issue because there's no blade, but keep the device dry and the cap closed between sessions.
