IQOS in the Monsoon: Rain, Damp Packs and Drying a Wet Device

The monsoon is hard on anything electronic you carry around, and on anything made of paper and tobacco. Your ILUMA i ONE and your TEREA packs face three problems for a few months each year: getting caught in the rain, constant humidity, and damp bags that never quite dry out. A little preparation deals with most of it. And if the device does get wet, the right response is simple, as long as you resist the urge to speed things up with heat.
Before the rains: a small monsoon kit
- A zip-lock pouch or small waterproof case for the device.
- A second zip-lock or an airtight box for your TEREA pack.
- A dry cloth in your bag.
- A habit: device and sticks go in an inner pocket or the inside of your bag, never an outer pocket that soaks through.
Keeping the device dry
- Don't use it in the rain. Find shelter first. Water and an open stick opening don't mix.
- Keep the cap closed whenever you're not using it, so splashes can't get into the opening.
- Dry your hands before you handle it after coming in from the rain.
- Watch the USB-C port. Don't plug a cable into a port that might be damp.
- Mind the two-wheeler commute. A device in a jeans pocket under a raincoat can still get wet when the raincoat doesn't quite cover everything. A zip-lock pouch inside the pocket fixes that.
If your device gets wet: step by step
- Stop using it. If there's a stick in it, pull the stick out and slide the cap closed.
- Switch it off.
- Wipe the outside with a dry cloth or tissue. Don't shake water deeper into the openings.
- Do not charge it. Not until you're sure it's completely dry.
- Let it dry at room temperature, somewhere airy and out of direct sun, and give it plenty of time. Don't rush it.
- Never use heat. No hairdryer, no oven, no stove, no hot windowsill, no placing it on a warm appliance. Heat can damage the battery and the device.
- Try it once it's fully dry. Power on by holding the button for 4 seconds. If it behaves normally, carry on.
- If anything seems wrong, such as it won't turn on, it won't heat a stick, or the lights behave oddly, stop and contact official IQOS support.
Don't open the device, and don't use it if it looks swollen, cracked or smells of burnt electronics.
Damp TEREA
Paper and tobacco soak up moisture. A pack that got wet, or one that's been open for days in humid air, may give you sticks that:
- feel soft or limp,
- show water marks or stains,
- smell musty, or
- taste flat or papery.
Don't use visibly wet or damaged sticks. They may not heat or taste as they should, and a soggy stick is unpleasant to use. Throw them away and open a fresh pack.
Storing sticks through the monsoon
- Keep packs closed. Close the lid after every stick.
- Open one pack at a time. Leave the rest of a carton sealed until you need it.
- Use an airtight box for the open pack if your home is very humid.
- Keep them away from damp walls, bathrooms and kitchen steam.
- Avoid the fridge. Moving packs between a cold fridge and warm, humid air can cause condensation.

Charging in the monsoon
- Charge only when the device and port are completely dry.
- Use a reputable adapter and a cable in good condition.
- If your area gets power fluctuations during storms, unplug chargers until the power settles.
- Charge on a dry desk or table, away from open windows that let rain in.
Our charging guide covers good charging habits year-round.
When to contact official support
Contact official IQOS support if, after drying properly:
- the device won't turn on, even after a full charge,
- it won't heat TEREA sticks that work in another device,
- the lights show patterns you don't recognise, or
- the device feels unusually warm, looks swollen or smells odd.

Questions
What should I do if my IQOS gets wet?
Stop using it, switch it off, wipe the outside, and let it dry completely at room temperature. Don't charge it or use heat to dry it. If it doesn't work normally afterwards, contact official support.
Can I use a hairdryer to dry my ILUMA i ONE?
No. Never use heat. Let it dry naturally at room temperature.
Can I use TEREA sticks that got damp?
Don't use visibly wet or damaged sticks. They may not heat or taste right. Open a fresh pack.
How do I keep TEREA fresh in the monsoon?
Keep packs closed, open one at a time, store them in an airtight box away from damp walls, and avoid the fridge.
