ILUMA i ONE in Hyderabad: The Four Lights Explained, State by State

By the iqoser team · Updated · 5 min read

IQOS ILUMA i ONE in Breeze Blue upright, with its four-light status bar visible

The ILUMA i ONE has no screen. Everything it tells you comes through four white lights in a status bar on its side and a few short vibrations. Once you know the sequence, you'll barely look at them. Until then, this guide walks through every state in the order you'll see them, from switching on to sliding the cap closed.

The whole sequence in one table

State What the lights do Vibration What it means What you do
Off Nothing None Device is off or idle Hold the button for 4 seconds
Power on All four fade on None Ready to accept a stick Slide the cap open, insert a TEREA stick
Stick inserted Heating begins One Heating has started automatically Wait; don't puff yet
Preheat Fill bottom to top, the filling light pulsing None Warming up, about 20 seconds Keep waiting
Ready Four steady lights One Ready to use Start puffing
Session Switch off top to bottom as it runs None Session counting down Puff normally
Last 30 s or 2 puffs Bottom light pulses One Nearly finished Take your last puffs
End Lights off None Session over Pull the stick out, slide the cap closed

All the lights are white. There are no other colours to decode.

Each state, explained

Off

No lights. To start, hold the pill-shaped button for 4 seconds. If nothing happens after a proper 4-second hold, the battery is the most likely reason. Charge it over USB-C, about 90 minutes from empty, and try again.

Power on

The four lights fade on together. The device is awake. Slide the cap toward the light end to uncover the opening.

Stick inserted

Push a TEREA stick in until the line on the filter meets the top of the device. You'll feel one vibration, and heating starts by itself. There's no second button press.

If you don't feel the vibration, check three things: it's a TEREA stick (HEETS don't work in ILUMA), it's pushed in to the line, and the cap is fully open.

Preheat

The lights fill from bottom to top, one at a time, with the one that's currently filling pulsing. This takes about 20 seconds. Puffing now gives a weak, disappointing start, so wait.

Ready

A second vibration and four steady lights. That's your signal. From here, the session runs for up to 6 minutes or 14 puffs, whichever comes first. FlexPuff can add up to 4 puffs.

Session countdown

As the session goes on, the lights switch off from the top down. Glance at them and you can see roughly how much is left: four lights near the start, fewer as you go.

Last-puffs warning

In the last 30 seconds or last 2 puffs, the device vibrates once and the bottom light pulses. That's your cue to finish.

End

The session is over. Pull the stick out and slide the cap closed. The used stick goes in a bin.

Reading the lights in bright sun

On a bright afternoon at Necklace Road or outside a Hitec City office, small white lights can be hard to see. The good news is that the important moments come with a vibration:

  • One vibration when heating starts.
  • A second vibration when it's ready.
  • One more when you're near the end.

Learn to go by feel and you don't need to see the lights at all. If you want to check, cup your hand around the device to shade it.

Things the lights don't do

  • They don't change colour. White only, whatever the finish.
  • They don't count your sticks. The lights describe the current session, not how many you've had today.
  • They don't tell you the blend. Taste does that.

If you see something not listed here

This guide covers the patterns in a normal session. If the device shows a light pattern that isn't described above, or behaves in a way that doesn't make sense, check the official IQOS user guide or contact official IQOS support. Don't guess, and don't keep inserting sticks into a device that's misbehaving. Questions

What do the ILUMA i ONE lights mean when they fill up?

That's the preheat. The lights fill from bottom to top over about 20 seconds; a second vibration and four steady lights mean it's ready.

Why is the bottom light pulsing?

You're in the last 30 seconds or last 2 puffs of the session. Finish up, pull the stick out and close the cap.

Why won't the lights come on?

Hold the button for a full 4 seconds. If nothing happens, charge the device over USB-C and try again.

Do the lights show different colours?

No. The ILUMA i ONE's lights are white only.
