IQOS in India: A Plain Guide to ILUMA i ONE and TEREA
IQOS is a family of heated-tobacco devices, and the ILUMA i ONE is its one-piece model. Instead of lighting tobacco, it heats a specially made tobacco stick called TEREA. This page puts the basics in one place: what the device and sticks are, what they cost, how a session goes from start to finish, how ordering works on iqoser.in, and what the evidence does and does not say about health.
It is written for adults 18 and over who already smoke or use nicotine. If you don't, nothing here is a reason to start.
What the ILUMA i ONE is
The ILUMA i ONE is a single unit. There is no separate holder and no charger case: the battery, the heater and the opening for the stick all live in one body measuring 122.4 × 30.6 × 16.3 mm and weighing 73.9 g.
It heats with SMARTCORE induction. There is no heating blade inside, so there is nothing to snap off and no cleaning routine. The 2025 redesign added a four-light status bar on the side and a pill-shaped button.
On a full charge it runs about 20 sessions. It charges by USB-C and takes about 90 minutes to fill from empty.

TEREA: the sticks
TEREA sticks come 20 to a pack and 10 packs (200 sticks) to a carton. One stick gives you roughly one session. Each stick is white with a coloured band printed "TEREA" at the mouth end, and once it is inserted only that band shows.
Two compatibility rules matter more than anything else on this page:
- TEREA works only in ILUMA-family devices. Each stick contains a sealed metal heating element that the device's induction coil warms. Never put TEREA in an older IQOS that uses a blade.
- HEETS, the older IQOS sticks, do not work in ILUMA devices.

How a session works
- Hold the button for 4 seconds. The four lights fade on.
- Slide the cap toward the light end to uncover the opening.
- Push a TEREA stick in until the line on the filter meets the top. The device vibrates once and heating starts on its own.
- Wait about 20 seconds. The lights fill from bottom to top, with the filling light pulsing.
- A second vibration and four steady lights mean it is ready.
- The session lasts up to 6 minutes or 14 puffs. FlexPuff can add up to 4 puffs. The lights switch off from top to bottom as time runs down.
- In the last 30 seconds or last 2 puffs, it vibrates once and the bottom light pulses. Then pull the stick out and slide the cap closed.

The honest health section
Here is what can be said fairly.
Because ILUMA heats tobacco instead of burning it, there is no smoke and no ash. Studies, including Philip Morris's own and some independent research, have measured much lower levels of many harmful chemicals in the aerosol than in cigarette smoke, and switching completely reduces your exposure to those chemicals.
What that does not mean:
- Lower exposure has not been shown to mean a lower risk of disease.
- It is not risk-free. The aerosol still contains nicotine, which is addictive, along with other chemicals.
- It is not a quit-smoking aid or a medicine.
In July 2020 the US FDA authorised an earlier IQOS system to be marketed as a "modified risk tobacco product" with reduced-exposure information only. Its list of IQOS orders names the IQOS 2.4 holder and charger. The FDA did not authorise any claim that IQOS lowers the risk of disease, and the 2020 order did not cover ILUMA.
The World Health Organization's view is that heated tobacco products are tobacco products, that all tobacco products pose risks to health, and that reducing exposure to harmful chemicals does not make them harmless. WHO does not recommend them as a way to quit.

Is the ILUMA i ONE the same as older IQOS devices?
No. It heats with induction rather than a blade, takes only TEREA sticks, and is a single piece with no separate charger case.
Can I use HEETS in the ILUMA i ONE?
No. HEETS do not work in ILUMA devices, and TEREA must never go into an older blade device.
How many sessions does one charge give?
About 20 sessions. A full charge over USB-C takes about 90 minutes.
Is IQOS risk-free?
No. It is not risk-free and contains addictive nicotine. Lower exposure to some chemicals has not been shown to mean lower disease risk, and quitting completely remains the best choice.
