IQOS in Jaipur: Dust, Dry Heat and Keeping the Device Clear

From late April, Jaipur's afternoons bring hot, dry winds and a fine dust that gets into everything: car vents, phone speakers, the zip of your bag. Around the walled city's bazaars or on a site visit out towards Sitapura, it's part of the day. If you're an adult smoker using the ILUMA i ONE, dust and dry heat are the two things to plan around. The device has a couple of design features that help, and a couple of habits that help more.
Where dust can get in
The ILUMA i ONE is a one-piece body with two openings that matter:
| Opening | What it's for | How dust gets in | Your defence |
|---|---|---|---|
| The stick opening | Where the TEREA stick goes | Left uncovered between sessions | Slide the cap closed every time |
| The USB-C port | Charging | Pocket lint and fine dust | Keep it in a pouch; check the port before plugging in |
That's the whole map. Everything else on the device is smooth surfaces you can wipe.
Why the sliding cap matters here
The cap covers the stick opening. You slide it toward the light end to uncover it, insert a stick, and slide it back once you've pulled the used stick out. In Jaipur's dust, that last step is the one that matters. An opening left uncovered in a pocket or bag collects grit, and grit is the reason a stick might not seat properly to the line.
Build the habit: stick out, cap closed, then pocket.
Why there's nothing to scrape
Older IQOS devices used a heating blade that went inside the stick. Tobacco residue built up on the blade and in the chamber, and dust made that worse. Owners scraped and brushed it regularly, and a blade could break.
The ILUMA i ONE uses SMARTCORE induction. The heating element is sealed inside each TEREA stick, and the device warms it by induction, with no blade pushed into the tobacco. There's no blade to coat with residue, nothing to scrape, and no cleaning tools to carry. That's a real advantage in a dusty city: the only thing that needs your attention is keeping grit out of the opening in the first place.
Keeping the USB-C port clear
The device charges over USB-C, about 90 minutes to full, for about 20 sessions. A port packed with dust can stop a cable seating properly.
- Look before you plug in. A quick glance in good light shows if there's lint or grit.
- Use a soft, dry brush or a gentle puff of air to clear loose dust.
- Never poke inside with a pin, toothpick or anything metal. You can damage the contacts.
- Don't use water or liquids.
- Keep the device in a pouch or a bag pocket of its own, away from loose tobacco, lint and keys.
- If it still won't charge, try a different cable and adapter, and contact official IQOS support if the problem stays.
Dry heat and the device
Jaipur summers are hot rather than humid, and that heat is the other thing to manage.
- Never leave the device in a parked car. A car in the sun in May gets far hotter than the air outside.
- Keep it out of direct sun on a café table or a two-wheeler seat.
- Let it cool before charging if it's been out in the heat.
- Charge indoors on a hard surface, not on a bed or under a cushion.
Dry heat and TEREA
Humid cities worry about damp sticks. In Jaipur's dry season the opposite can happen: a pack left open for a long time can dry out, and a dried-out stick may taste harsher.
- Keep packs closed between sticks.
- Store unopened packs in a cupboard, away from sunny windows and the kitchen.
- Carry one pack at a time in a bag rather than a shirt pocket in the sun.
- Finish one pack before opening the next.
- Don't crush packs. A bent stick may not insert to the line.
A quick daily routine
- Morning: check the battery is charged and the cap is closed.
- Before each session: slide the cap open, insert the stick to the line.
- After each session: stick out, cap closed, used stick in a bin.
- Evening: look at the USB-C port, then charge.
